Cipangu - the name given to Japan by Marco Polo, possibly based on the early Chinese word for Japan. In modern Japanese, Cipangu can be transliterated into English as Jipangu, Zipangu, Jipang, or Zipang. Jipangu as a name for Japan has recently come into use for Japanese films, anime, video games, etc.
